The father of steam trains is George Stephenson, a former miner, who built Locomotion No. 1 in 1829, the first public steam railway. The steam locomotive runs on wood, oil or coal. Huge pots of water are heated and the water becomes steam with great pressure. Steam and pressure turn the wheels. Although in the 19th century we no longer used electric trains for public transport, you can still find tourist railways.
